How this works
FindHomeFix counts the City of Austin plumbing permits issued in the last 12 months and matches the companies named on them to the Texas master plumber list. A count shows how much permitted work a company is named on. It shows activity, not quality.
Data from November 1, 2025 to October 31, 2026, updated November 1, 2026. We plan to refresh monthly.
What is counted
Each count is a permit from the City of Austin's issued construction permits: plumbing permits (type PP), class Residential, work class Repair or Change Out, issued in the 12 months from November 2025 to October 2026. That is 5,557 permits, naming 434 companies.
Job types (water heaters, repairs, sewer lines, gas lines) come from the words in each permit record. A permit can count under more than one job, so job counts can add up to more than the total. We don't print permit descriptions or job locations.
What is left out
Permits don't capture all work. Many repairs need no permit, so a company's count is not the same as how much work it does.
City of Austin only. A company based in a suburb may do much more work than its Austin count shows, because suburban permits are not in this data.
Counts show activity, not quality. We don't rate, review or recommend any company.
How companies are matched
Company names differ between the permit records and the licence list, so a licence is matched in one of two ways: by normalised name plus phone number, or by a manual check of public sources, such as the company's own website or the trade name on the state record. Where both a legal name and the name homeowners know are on record, the pages use the name homeowners know.
A company shows "licence not matched yet" when we could not match it to a licence either way. It is not a statement about the company's licence. It may be that the names or phone numbers differ between the two files, or that the licence is held under another name.
What the licence list shows
The Texas file lists individual master plumbers, not companies. When a page says a Texas master plumber licence is listed with a company, the state record matched on name plus phone number. When it says a licence was linked by a manual check, a person made the link from public sources. Either way the page gives the licence number so you can check it with the state. We don't print the person's name, phone number or address. A company counts as matched if any current holder is linked either way.
Insurance dates are shown exactly as the state lists them, with the date the list was retrieved. We say nothing about whether a company's insurance is current.
Names we hold back
Some contractor names are held back when they look like a private person's name. Those companies get no page and are not listed, but their permits still count in the city totals. 386 of the 5,557 permits aren't tied to a listed company: 336 name no contractor and 50 name one of the 12 companies we don't list.
